Damask fabric, also known as Jacquard, and Bazin is considered a prestige cloth in West Africa. You can see the designs woven into the fabric itself. Though little damask is actually manufactured on the African continent, damask is found in all the markets. It comes in a vast array of colors and designs. Damask is generally a pretty costly item. This was purchased in The Gambia, West Africa and may have been yardage that had been discontinued or overruns. In any case, the price is pretty reasonable, don't you think?
